Automation is the future

Automation is a term for technology applications where human input is minimized during repetitive work, allowing expensive, trained and skilled humans to focus on decision-making tasks. In data terms, automation can help with sifting through data to expose valuable information. Pre-processing data before an analyst even knows the data is available can help expedite the exploitation of that data. In The future of defence technologies: 10 trends and predictions to watch, automation of tasks and user processes was mentioned as an enabler to help make the most of numerous trends.

The defence domain, similar to government agencies and commercial companies, has tried and tested procedures for analysing and working with data. These are often captured in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and carried out repetitively.

As technology and processing power has advanced, more of these workflows can be automated: Data cataloguing and dissemination, information extraction from geospatial data, analysis of data prior to a human analyst being involved. Hexagon provides the capability for geospatial data workflows and user workflows to be captured, automated, shared and maintained. This webinar looks at examples of use cases for data and user workflows in defence and other industries.
