CARFAX Uses Google Maps Platform to Enhance Location-Based Business Strategies
Optimizing Google Maps API to Improve Technical Value and Better Manage Costs
CARFAX is the standard for vehicle history reports on used cars and light trucks in the United States and Canada. As a result, millions of individuals and businesses each year trust CARFAX to inform their buying decisions.
CARFAX showcases millions of used cars for sale on its website, including certified pre-owned autos from dealers. The company receives data from more than 100,000 sources. Leveraging this information, consumers can search for vehicle accident history, number of owners, service records, find the closest vehicles to their locations, and more.
Google Maps Platform’s location capabilities enhance CARFAX’s offerings and help boost revenue and growth. Previously, the company worked directly with Google for Google Maps APIs, but CARFAX needed more value-added services and different pricing options when Google switched to a pay-as-you-go model in 2018.
Google referred CARFAX to Thermopylae Sciences & Technologies, part of Hexagon, as a trusted partner to develop a location strategy that could deliver optimal results and return-on-investment from Google Maps Platform.
Optimizing APIs to Enhance Business Value
CARFAX uses a wide range of Google Maps APIs, including Dynamic Maps, Geocoding, Directions, Places Auto-complete, Geo-location and Static Maps. For instance, Dynamic Maps shows the location of cars and service shops in a buyer’s area of interest, while the Directions API provides distance and directions between the buyer and these locations. The Places Autocomplete API streamlines the billing process by auto-filling addresses for customers.
